Description of class
This class is for people who have severe breathing difficulties such as COPD, Chronic Asthma and LAM. It does not matter if you are on oxygen or if you can walk only a few yards; you will be able to participate. The class concentrates on relaxation, breathing exercises and gentle stretching. Much of the practice is done from a chair.
The class started in 2006 after a yoga workshop at the self help Breathe Easy group affiliated to the British Lung Foundation. The members were so impressed with the beneficial effects of the yoga that they experienced, that they set up this class. There are no requirements to be eligible to join the class but if you have attended a Pulmonary Rehab course you will find that this class is very complementary. All the equipment is provided but it would be useful if you could bring along a blanket.

People who have attended the class for a period of time have found that they are more relaxed, have more control over their breathing and can do more physical activity than they could previously.

Try out a class
If you have never attended a class before you are very welcome to come along and try out a class.

Joining mid term
You will be able to pick up the yoga very quickly and it is perfectly OK to join the class at any time.

Venue Description
Situated in its own grounds with car parking, the Ark is a stand alone building with plenty of natural light, gas fired central heating, and provides a peaceful and quiet setting to practise yoga.

Directions
From Aylesbury follow the signs to Stoke Mandeville Hospital and take the A413 Walton Street. This bears right into the B4443 Mandeville Road which then becomes Lower Road. You will pass the hospital on your left. When you come to a roundabout take the second exit onto the A4010. You will pass the Wool Pack pub and restaurant on your left and shortly afterwards will be the Ark on your right. The entrance is immediately after the building and is easy to miss as you are driving into a residential close with some houses. Bear round to the right and park. The entrance is on your right.
